It is not really too harsh to say that both the Windows 10 mobile as well as the Windows Phone don’t really pull significant weight in the mobile market. So it could be interpreted in a other way as Microsoft has notably failed with its mobile platforms.
Having said this, it would yet be absurd to generalize that Microsoft has been a failure in mobile overall. Truth is there is this distinct brilliance to Microsoft’s applications as well as its services on the mobile platforms now of importance — these being iOS and Android. But now ,the Windows-maker has concluded arrangements with Xiaomi which will result in the latter pre-installing both Skype and Office on its Android devices.
According to Microsoft:
“Microsoft Corp. and Xiaomi Inc. have expanded their global partnership to provide innovative user experiences on mobile devices. As part of the agreement, Xiaomi will ship Microsoft Office and Skype on Xiaomi Android smartphones and tablets. As a result, tens of millions of consumers and business customers in China, India and around the world will have new ways to work, collaborate and communicate. The companies’ new collaboration also includes a cross-license and patent transfer agreement”.

The Windows-maker further reveals that , “beginning in September 2016, Xiaomi Android devices, including Mi 5, Mi Max, Mi 4s, Redmi Note 3 and Redmi 3, will come pre-installed with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Skype applications. Specific offerings may vary by device, market and mobile operator. This agreement builds on the companies’ partnership with Windows 10 on Mi Pad and Microsoft Azure powering the Mi Cloud service. Partnerships with companies such as Xiaomi are central to Microsoft’s strategy to work with industry leaders around the world to meet the needs of joint customers”.
It is true that these Microsoft apps are really impressive, but this doesn’t take away the reality that pre-installing them appears a bit tricky. Another way to say this is, it appears Microsoft is trying to strangle even unwilling consumers with its offerings. But then we can only hope Xiaomi Android owners still retain the capacity to uninstall Office and Skype should they not be in love with the apps. For the modern reality is an app however superb, which cannot be disposed when it loses essence is an only a superbly discomforting bloatware. And sadly the mighty Skype or Office could turn one.
